From Lefkada's cliff-top classics to Kefalonia's postcard crescent, this is our ranked guide to the best beaches within reach of a Western Greece campervan trip โ including how each one is really accessed.
Western Greece isn't short on beaches worth a detour โ the hard part is knowing which ones are worth the drive, the staircase, or the ferry crossing. This list ranks the 15 best across Lefkada, the mainland coast between Preveza and Syvota, and Kefalonia as a ferry day trip from Lefkada.
The ranking weighs scenery against how realistic each beach actually is to reach with a campervan and a normal holiday schedule โ a spectacular cliff-top view that needs a boat, a rockfall-damaged staircase, or a full day's round trip counts against a beach, even a famous one. Where access has changed recently, we've noted it rather than repeating outdated advice.

Lefkada: 6 beaches, from cliff-top icons to quiet coves
Lefkada's west coast is where the iconic photos come from โ but the island also has a couple of easier, more sheltered beaches that need no staircase and no boat.
#1 Porto Katsiki
Sheer white limestone cliffs drop to a narrow strip of pebble and startlingly turquoise water โ Lefkada's single most photographed spot.
- Access
- A staircase cut into the cliff leads down from the clifftop car park, roughly 80โ100 steps (exact counts vary by source). No shade on the way down or on the beach itself.
- Facilities
- A couple of seasonal beach bars with sunbed and umbrella rental near the base of the stairs; prices are seasonal and approximate โ check current rates locally.
- Crowds
- Very busy in July and August, especially once tour boats and coach groups arrive mid-morning; visit early or aim for June or September.
- Best for
- The classic Lefkada view and a proper swim in dramatically blue water.
#3 Egremni
A long, dramatic run of white sand and pebble beneath towering cliffs on Lefkada's west coast, south of Porto Katsiki.
- Access
- Access here has changed repeatedly. The original roughly 350-step staircase was damaged in the November 2015 earthquake and rebuilt as a metal staircase by around 2021 โ but the Municipality of Lefkada has since closed land and road access due to ground instability, and a February 2026 rockfall damaged the stairs further. As of 2026, boat access from Vasiliki or Nydri is the standard way to reach this beach; check the current status locally before planning around it.
- Facilities
- Minimal to none โ bring your own water and shade.
- Crowds
- Much quieter than Porto Katsiki, simply because reaching it takes more effort.
- Best for
- Travellers happy to take a boat trip for a quieter version of Lefkada's famous cliff-beach scenery.
#5 Kathisma
A long sandy beach on Lefkada's west coast โ the easiest big beach on the island to reach and settle in for the day.
- Access
- Direct, paved road access, no stairs and no paths.
- Facilities
- Full facilities: sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars and restaurants, plus a clothing-optional stretch at the far northern end.
- Crowds
- Busy in high season, but the beach is long enough to spread out.
- Best for
- A relaxed full day at the beach with everything on hand, and easy access for any vehicle.
#6 Agiofili
A small, very clear cove tucked beneath cliffs near Vassiliki, on Lefkada's south-west coast.
- Access
- A short coastal walking path from the road above, or a short water taxi from Vassiliki.
- Facilities
- A small seasonal snack bar; otherwise bring what you need.
- Crowds
- Moderate โ the walk or boat trip keeps it from getting Kathisma-sized crowds.
- Best for
- Snorkelling and a quieter cove without a long journey.
#11 Mikros Gialos
A sheltered bay on Lefkada's east coast, with calmer, greener water than the west-coast beaches.
- Access
- Easy road access, right by the village.
- Facilities
- Tavernas on the beach and sunbed rental nearby.
- Crowds
- Low-key โ more local families than day-trippers.
- Best for
- Families and calm-water swimming.
#14 Poros Beach
A pebble beach on Lefkada's south-west coast, less well known than its west-coast neighbours but with a similarly scenic backdrop.

- Reached via a side road off the main coastal route; check current road condition locally before visiting.
- Facilities
- Limited โ bring your own water and shade to be safe.
- Crowds
- Quiet compared with the headline beaches nearby.
- Best for
- A low-key alternative without the crowds of Porto Katsiki or Kathisma.
The mainland coast: Preveza to Parga to Syvota
The stretch of coastline between Preveza and Syvota trades Lefkada's dramatic cliffs for horseshoe bays, a river mouth, and one of the longest stretches of sand in Europe.
#7 Lichnos, Parga
A horseshoe-shaped bay near Parga, regularly rated one of the best mainland beaches for combining natural beauty with amenities.

- Direct road access with parking nearby, or a walking path over from Parga.
- Facilities
- Sunbeds, umbrellas, tavernas and water-sports rental in season.
- Crowds
- Popular in summer, especially with day-trippers from Parga, but rarely overwhelming.

- A well-rounded beach day close to Parga with everything on hand.
#8 Bella Vraka, Syvota
A sandbar near Syvota that connects the mainland to a small island, with the sea on both sides.

- A short coastal walk from Syvota village.

A vast stretch of sand right on the edge of Preveza town, reported as one of the longest sandy beaches in Europe at roughly 22โ25km.

- Very easy โ flat, direct road access from Preveza.
- Facilities
- Beach bars and sunbed rental along the developed sections nearest town; long stretches further out are undeveloped.
- Crowds
- Busiest near the access points close to Preveza; walk further out and it empties fast.
- Best for
- Wide-open sand and space to spread out, right by the airport town.
#12 Ammoudia
Where the Acheron River meets the Ionian Sea, near the river mouth and close to the Nekromanteion โ a mix of river-delta scenery and sea beach.
- Access
- Direct road access into Ammoudia village.
- Facilities
- A handful of tavernas and basic sunbed rental.
- Crowds
- Quiet and off the main tourist circuit.
- Best for
- A slower, scenic stop that pairs a swim with the Acheron River and a nearby ancient site.
#15 Mega Ammos, Syvota

Kefalonia: worth the ferry from Lefkada
Kefalonia isn't connected by road, but the ferry from Nydri or Vassiliki to Fiskardo makes it a realistic day trip โ and its beaches are good enough to justify the crossing.
#2 Myrtos
A vast white-pebble crescent beneath steep cliffs, with some of the most intensely blue water in Greece โ one of the country's most photographed beaches.
- Access
- A paved switchback road descends from the viewpoint above, with a car park near the beach.
- Facilities
- Sunbed and umbrella rental plus a seasonal snack bar; check current rates locally.
- Crowds
- Can get very busy at midday in summer as coach tours arrive; early morning or late afternoon is quieter.
- Best for
- Photographs and a bucket-list swim, best combined with a Fiskardo ferry day trip.
#4 Antisamos
A pebble beach near Sami backed by green hills, best known as a filming location for Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

- A short, easy drive from Sami with parking near the beach.

- Popular but rarely as packed as Myrtos, with calmer swimming too.

- Busy near the harbour in season, but easy to find a quieter cove nearby.
- Best for
- A quick swim without using up a full day, especially if you're day-tripping by ferry.
