Most campervan content targets couples. Here's what actually changes when kids come along โ pacing, van setup, and activities that work for all ages.
A campervan trip works differently with kids in the mix than it does for a couple. It's not a smaller version of the same trip โ it's a different one, built around fewer stops, more downtime, and activities that don't require patience the kids don't have yet.
Slow down the itinerary
The single biggest adjustment: fewer bases, longer stays. Families who try to see everything on an aggressive schedule tend to have a rougher trip than those who pick two or three bases and let each one breathe. In Western Greece specifically, that might mean a few days based in Lefkada with day trips out, rather than moving location every night.
Build slack into the plan rather than a packed schedule โ a rained-out morning or a tired toddler shouldn't wreck the day if you haven't over-committed it.
Setting up the van for kids
A compact campervan works fine for a family of four for a week or two, but a bit of planning helps: secure storage for toys and books that would otherwise roll around while driving, a proper child car seat fitted and tested before you leave the pickup point, and a clear routine for where things live so the space doesn't fall into chaos by day three.
Give kids some ownership of their own small storage spot โ it cuts down on the daily hunt for a specific toy and gives them some sense of control over a small, shared space.

Short half-day boat trips to nearby coves are an easy, low-effort activity that breaks up driving days and appeals across a wide age range.
Practical basics
Meals lean simple and approachable in this part of Greece โ grilled meats, pita, fries, yoghurt, fresh fruit โ which tends to suit picky younger eaters without much negotiation. Kids are genuinely welcome everywhere here, including late tavern dinners and long lunches, so don't feel pressured to eat early or separately.
Bring a few low-effort entertainment options for driving stretches and quiet evenings โ this part of Greece has plenty of outdoor activity, but a rainy morning or a long transfer day still benefits from something in reserve.
