There's a moment on every campervan trip that makes the whole thing click. For most couples, it happens on the first morning β you slide open the door and the sea is right there, still and clear, with no hotel breakfast queue in sight.

Privacy when you want it
You choose your view. Park at a quiet cove and the evening is yours β no neighbours, no fixed check-out time. Western Greece has plenty of legal overnight spots where you'll often be the only ones there.
Flexibility without compromise
One of you wants to linger at the beach; the other spotted a mountain village on the map. In a campervan you can do both, because your accommodation moves with you.
The unplanned moments
A seaside taverna you found because the road dead-ended at a harbour, a sunset you watched because you happened to park facing west β the best parts of a trip like this are rarely the ones you booked in advance.
Why a compact van suits two people so well

A 7β10 day route: the Ionian coast loop
You'll collect the van at Aktion Airport (PVK), which puts you right at the doorstep of some of Greece's most beautiful coastline.
Days 1β2: Lefkada Island
Drive straight onto Lefkada (no ferry needed) and head for the west coast. Porto Katsiki and Kathisma are dramatic, cliff-backed beaches with electric-blue water. Camp at one of the island's campsites or find a quiet spot near Agios Nikitas village.

Days 3β4: Parga & surrounds
Cross back to the mainland and drive north to Parga β a hillside town tumbling to a Venetian harbour. Swim at Valtos Beach and climb up to the castle at sunset. There are several campsites just outside town.

Days 5β6: Syvota
Head south to Syvota, a small harbour village with some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean. Take a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon and Bella Vraka, a tiny island connected by a sandbar you can wade across.

Days 7β8: Preveza & Nikopolis
Loop back south to Preveza, a lively waterfront town. Visit the ancient ruins of Nikopolis β the "City of Victory" founded by Augustus after the Battle of Actium β quiet and atmospheric in the late afternoon light.

Days 9β10: Ammoudia & the Acheron River
If you have the time, drive to tiny Ammoudia at the mouth of the Acheron. The village itself is barely a handful of tavernas on a sandy beach, with a shallow, crystal-clear river you can swim and float through just inland.

Best time of year for couples
MayβJune and September are the sweet spot: fewer crowds than JulyβAugust, daytime temperatures around 25β30Β°C, and evenings pleasantly mild.
The shoulder-season light is also noticeably softer and more photogenic than the harsher midsummer sun β worth factoring in if photos matter to you.
Practical first-timer tips
- Download offline maps for the whole region before you leave β mobile signal is good in towns but patchy on coastal roads and in gorges.
- Fill up on water and fuel whenever you pass a station in a town; rural stations keep irregular hours.
- Respect local parking norms β don't block access roads, farm gates or fishing boat launch ramps.
- Book your first night's spot in advance so you're not searching in the dark after a flight.
- Don't try to see too much β three or four spots in a week is plenty. The point is to actually be somewhere together, not to cover distance.
